Physiotherapy for back pain

Do you have lower back pain, a stiff back or pain radiating into your leg? Back complaints are very common and in most cases can be treated well. At Fysico Rotterdam we help you reduce the pain, move with confidence again and prevent the complaints from coming back.

Back pain: common and very treatable

Most people experience back pain at some point. Often there is no clear cause, such as a herniated disc or other injury. This is called non-specific back pain. That may sound vague, but above all it means your back is not damaged and that you can recover well with the right approach.

How does physiotherapy help with back pain?

With back pain, movement is usually better than rest. Our physiotherapists help you stay active in a responsible way and make your back stronger. We focus on:

  • Reducing pain and muscle tension
  • Improving your mobility
  • Building strength and load capacity
  • Preventing new back complaints

Which back complaints can we help with?

You can come to us with, among other things:

  • Lower back pain (acute or long-term)
  • Lumbago or a suddenly locked back
  • Pain radiating to the buttock or leg
  • Recovery after a herniated disc or back surgery
  • Back and neck complaints caused by sitting or working posture
  • Back complaints during or after pregnancy

When should you see your GP first?

Contact your GP immediately if you have back pain with fever, after a fall or accident, numbness in the saddle area, or problems with urinating or bowel movements. During your first appointment we always check whether physiotherapy is the right choice for you.

How many treatments will I need?
This varies per person and per complaint. After the intake we'll discuss what you can expect.

Can I move with back pain?
In most cases, yes. Keeping moving gently helps recovery. We'll advise you on what is good for your back.

Our approach to back pain

During the intake we map out your complaints, your daily load and your goals. After a physical examination we draw up a treatment plan together. Depending on your complaints, treatment may include:

  • Exercise therapy and strength training for the back and core
  • Manual therapy for stiffness or restricted movement
  • Dry needling for tense muscles and trigger points
  • Advice on posture, work and movement in daily life
  • Supervised training in our training room (Bentinckplein location)

Our goal is that you don't depend on treatments, but know yourself how to keep your back strong and supple.
